Daniel Pipes, founder of Middle East Forum, discussed Iran’s retaliatory attacks on US bases across Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, Kuwait and other locations. He said the Iranian regime made a big mistake in attacking all of its Arabic-speaking neighbours, plus Jordan and even Cyprus. Pipes suggested the attacks may not be centrally planned, stating ‘this could be decisions made in the field’ by low-ranking officers making spontaneous, unplanned decisions. He noted that not only is Khamenei dead, but many military leaders are as well, creating chaos. Pipes predicted both sides will soon run out of munitions and the conflict will diminish. He urged Gulf states to stand with the United States against the Islamic Republic and help facilitate the Iranian population in overthrowing the regime. Pipes compared the current situation to 1979, suggesting a dramatic change could occur in 2026, though he expects infighting and a lengthy transition involving minorities seeking autonomy.
