The Dalai Lama recently stated that his successor would be chosen by the India-based Garin for Drunk Trust, a non-profit organization he established, rather than any other authority. This statement was interpreted as a message to China. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju emphasized that the Dalai Lama institution is purely religious and that the Indian government believes in non-interference in religious matters.
