In a wide-ranging interview, Telangana’s Minister for IT, E&C, Industries & Commerce and Legislative Affairs, D. Sridhar Babu, stated he feels ‘not much of encouragement is being given by the central government’ regarding semiconductor manufacturing in the state. The Minister alleged that a company which had shown interest in Telangana was ultimately approved for a different state, calling it ‘too disheartening.’ He also revealed that Telangana’s debt has surged from 60,000 crores in 2014 to nearly ‘7 lakh crores now’. On the technology front, the minister announced plans for a 200-acre AI city near the international airport, intended to be a hub for R&D and startups.
