CrowdStrike Faces Congress Over July’s Global IT Outage: Apology Issued After Millions Affected
A Senior Vice President of CrowdStrike has apologized for a massive outage that occurred on July 19th. CrowdStrike’s botched handling of a software update on that day triggered a technology meltdown that stranded thousands of people in airports in addition to other exasperating disruptions.
Adam Meyers, the Senior Vice President for Counter-adversary Operations at CrowdStrike, testified before the U.S. House cybersecurity subcommittee on Tuesday.
"CrowdStrike was in the process of updating our customers on a new threat. It released a content configuration update for the window sensor that did not work as expected. This resulted in Microsoft system crashes for a number of our users. On behalf of everyone at CrowdStrike, I want to apologize. We’re deeply sorry and we are determined to prevent this from ever happening again," he said. The problem froze up machines running on Windows software.
