A six-year-old boy has died in Jaipur’s JK Lon hospital, adding to a growing number of deaths linked to a cough syrup. The child was referred from Churu after his parents said they administered the syrup at home. This incident is part of a wider tragedy, with deaths reported in Madhya Pradesh and across Rajasthan, bringing the total to at least 12 children. In response, authorities have suspended a drug controller and the distribution of medicines from the Jaipur-based manufacturer, Kayson’s Pharma, whose owner is reportedly missing and factory is shut. The crisis has raised questions of systemic failure, with one reporter noting, "When a… community health officer… is dispensing this cough syrup… it’s the system’s fault. You, the Health Minister, cannot say that the parents gave it at home." The syrup has also reportedly caused illness in adults, including a doctor and an elderly woman, deepening the probe into the drug’s safety.
