India marked Constitution Day with a special event at Samvidhan Sadan, attended by President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The day, observed on November 26 to commemorate the adoption of India’s constitution, saw both the government and the opposition hold celebrations that were also marked by political sparring. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi pledged to shield the constitution, stating, ‘Let us pledge that we shall not allow any assault on the constitution in any manner whatsoever.’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to citizens to strengthen the democratic framework, while President Murmu called the constitution the backbone of India’s democracy. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee posted on X that democracy, secularism, and federalism are at stake, urging the protection of the constitution’s guidance.
