On the day of the RSS’s centenary celebration attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress party launched a sharp attack, labelling the organisation a ‘big traitor’. The Congress alleged the RSS assisted the British during the 1942 ‘Bharat Chhoro’ movement and had no role in India’s freedom struggle. Congress leader Supriya Shrinate questioned its contribution to nation-building, stating, "Why are we talking about an organization that was banned by Sardar Patel, India’s first Home Minister, because he alleged and he was absolutely convinced that they were spreading hatred." Further allegations included that the RSS was behind India’s partition, opposed the constitution, and disrespected the tricolour. The BJP countered the claims, accusing the Congress party of functioning on an ecosystem where it denies or deflects reality.
