Congress Slams PM Modi's PTI Interview As 'Scripted PR Exercise' Over Budget And US Trade Deal

A political row has erupted between the Congress and the BJP following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent interview with PTI. The Congress party has dismissed the interview as a ‘carefully scripted as well as a desperate PR exercise’ intended to manage headlines. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh alleged that the Prime Minister is ‘under siege and attack because of his surrender to the US on the trade deal’ and claimed the recent Union Budget shows ‘signs of intellectual exhaustion’. In contrast, the BJP and the Prime Minister have hailed the budget as a ‘vision document’ aimed at transforming India into a developed nation, or ‘Viksit Bharat’, by 2047. During the interview, the Prime Minister asserted that the budget was a ‘now or never moment’ born out of preparation rather than compulsion, while criticizing the economic mismanagement of the UPA era. The report highlights the intensifying war of words over economic policy and national development goals.
