Congress leader Shama Mohamed has criticised the party leadership, specifically questioning Rahul Gandhi over the distribution of tickets to women candidates ahead of the Kerala assembly polls. She alleged that out of 92 tickets, only nine were given to women. Mohamed further claimed that in the Lok Sabha elections of 2024, only one woman was given a ticket out of the 16 tickets distributed by the Congress. She stated that if a woman happens to be talented, the situation becomes dire, calling it very sad. Mohamed has openly accused the party of discrimination against women, particularly those who pose competition to male candidates. She had been seeking a ticket from Kannur or elsewhere in Kerala during the Lok Sabha elections, but the ticket went to veteran Congress leader and sitting MP K Sudhakaran. This time, she was hopeful of securing a ticket from Kannur for the assembly elections.
