In a sharp attack on the Trinamool Congress, Congress MP Imran Masood has slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the construction of a ‘Babri Mosque’ in the state. Masood, the Member of Parliament from Saharanpur, accused the TMC of aiding the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) communal agenda by allowing such polarization. Referring to the foundation stone laying by suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir in Murshidabad, Masood asked, ‘Why are you giving permission to communal forces?’ He warned that playing with ideology would lead to political loss. The Congress leader termed the move a ‘tamasha’ (drama) intended to divide voters ahead of the elections. This statement comes as the Congress seeks to distance itself from the controversial move, with Masood asserting that the construction is a catalyst for unrest.
