Abhishek Manu Singhvi, returning to the Rajya Sabha for the fifth consecutive time, spoke about his experiences in the upper house over the last 20 years. He said he has ‘learned a lot’ from debates that happen during quiet sessions when cameras are not present. Singhvi described himself as someone who has received cross-party support and has represented major opposition leaders including Sharad Pawar, Mamata Banerjee, and Arvind Kejriwal. He stated, ‘I’m very proud to join this distinguished collection as the 17th member in a fifth term.’ Addressing concerns about Congress MLAs in Bihar not turning up for voting, Singhvi alleged that the BJP uses disproportionate money power in a ‘9 is to 1’ ratio to influence Rajya Sabha elections and topple governments. He claimed this is a ‘new BJP tactic’ that leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee ‘never did,’ calling it harmful to Indian democracy and the level playing field required for free and fair elections.
