A political firestorm has erupted in Karnataka after the state BJP chief, BY Vijendra, challenged the Congress to name Mallikarjun Kharge as its Prime Ministerial face to prove its commitment to Dalits, calling the party’s OBC meet an ‘eyewash’. In a sharp rebuttal, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah accused the BJP of treating Dalits shamefully and escalated the matter to the national level. Siddaramaiah questioned why the BJP doesn’t appoint a Dalit leader to replace its own state chief and dared the party to act on the RSS chief’s suggestion for leaders to retire at 75.
