A political controversy has erupted in Telangana over remarks made by Congress MLA Bhupathi Reddy. In a public address, the MLA from Nizamabad’s rural constituency was quoted as saying, "Lord Rama, does he exist because of the BJP or will he cease to exist because of the BJP? PM Modi, how long will he live? He’s already 75 years old". The BJP has strongly condemned the statement, calling it "vile and disgraceful" and a reflection of the Congress’s contempt for Hindu sentiments. In response, Reddy has claimed his words were misrepresented by the BJP. Telangana BJP’s chief spokesperson, N.V. Subhash, called the comments highly objectionable and demanded an apology. He suggested the remarks were an "appeasement policy" ahead of local body elections scheduled in 15 days.
