Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin unveiled a portrait of Dravidian leader Periyar at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. The event marks the centenary of the self-respect movement, which Periyar founded. Speaking at the event, Stalin described himself as a grandson of Periyar and stated, "Periyar fed self-respect to a whole race." He elaborated on ‘Periyarism’ as a concept encompassing self-respect, rationalism, equality, humanity, empowerment for women, secularism, and a scientific temper, with no discrimination based on caste or gender. The Chief Minister’s visit to the UK is part of a larger European trip which also included Germany. The unveiling is seen as a significant moment for Tamil Nadu’s history and the global recognition of Dravidian ideology.
