China’s Tianwen-3 mission aims to return samples from Mars by 2028 through an ambitious dual-launch strategy. One spacecraft will land, collect samples, and launch them into orbit. A second orbiter will "catch" the sample container using a lightweight 12kg device — no traditional docking required. The mission targets around 600 grams of Martian soil and rocks, possibly from Utopia Planitia, a region believed to hold ancient ice. If successful, it could revolutionize our understanding of Mars’ climate and potential for past life.
