Skywatchers in India and across Asia are set to witness a rare celestial spectacle on Sunday night — the longest lunar eclipse since 2022. The eclipse will begin at 8:58 pm and last until 2:25 am, with the blood moon visible at its peak around 11 pm. Unlike solar eclipses, lunar eclipses are completely safe to watch with the naked eye.
Astronomy groups in Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Mysuru, and Chennai are hosting public viewings and live streams. This rare red moon phenomenon happens as Earth’s atmosphere scatters sunlight, casting a fiery glow on the Moon.
