The Union Cabinet has eased FDI rules for border countries by modifying Press Note 3, relaxing curbs on investments. Sources indicate that electronics companies had been seeking relief and Chinese investments into India are set to rise. Dixon Technologies surged nearly 11.5% following the announcement. Meanwhile, India faces an LPG supply crunch impacting the restaurant and hospitality industry. Anurag Katriar, Trustee at the National Restaurant Association of India, stated that while no restaurant closures have been reported yet, there is ‘a lot of panic’ and ‘a lot of confusion’ with scarcity of supply on the ground. He emphasised the need for clear government communication, noting that small roadside vendors and restaurateurs are most vulnerable. The Indian equity markets rebounded sharply with the Sensex jumping over 600 points and Nifty crossing 24,250, driven by cooling oil prices and easing geopolitical tensions after Trump’s remarks on the Iran conflict.
