C.P. Radhakrishnan was sworn in as the new Vice President of India in a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The oath of office was administered by President Droupadi Murmu. The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the entire cabinet, and former Vice Presidents including Jagdeep Dhankhar and Venkaiah Naidu. Radhakrishnan’s selection by the NDA is seen as a result of his non-confrontational approach and administrative experience as the Governor of Jharkhand and Maharashtra. According to an analysis, "his focus was to stay away from major controversies and that certainly reinforced his image as a stabled and a safe hand, someone who was best suited for constitutional role." In his new capacity, Radhakrishnan will serve as the ex-officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, where his key role will be to ensure the functioning of the Upper House. His victory in the election was considered a foregone conclusion due to the ruling alliance’s numerical strength in Parliament.
