Burning Question: Turmoil in Maharashtra Polls as Akhilesh Threatens to Fight Elections Solo
Signalling a deepening of the cracks in the larger INDI alliance as the crucial Maharashtra assembly polls draw near, the Samajwadi Party (SP) threatened to go it alone if kept out of the share of seats in the state. Sending out a clear message to the Maha Vikas Aghdi (MVA), SP supremo Akhilesh Yadav said his party would unilaterally field candidates for seats it fancies winning if kept out of the alliance in Maharashtra. Going a step further, the SP’s Maharashtra chief Abu Azmi, earlier, issued an ultimatum to the Aghadi, saying it would announce candidates for at least 25 seats if not allowed to contest 5 seats of its choice
