A deadly collapse at the Kalando artisanal mine in southeastern Congo killed at least 32 miners. Heavy rain and overcrowding had already made the bridge unstable when gunfire from security personnel sparked panic, causing miners to rush onto the structure as it gave way. Authorities have halted all activity at the site while rescue operations continue.
