Udupi police have arrested a 21-year-old man, identified as Alif Islam, in connection with a high-profile espionage case involving the leak of sensitive Indian Navy information to Pakistan. The suspect, originally from West Bengal and recently residing in Kerala, is accused of sharing critical data, including ship identification numbers and technical details from the Cochin Shipyard’s Malpe unit. Investigators suspect Islam may be a Bangladeshi national and are currently verifying his identity documents. This arrest marks the fifth in a broader investigation that has already seen the detention of individuals from Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. The accused allegedly used social media platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook to transmit classified information in exchange for financial incentives. Authorities believe the espionage activities had been ongoing for nearly 18 months. The investigation is now focused on uncovering the full extent of the network and identifying any additional handlers or accomplices involved in the breach of national security.
