Leprosy is curable – but the stigma around it still lingers. Every year, over 2 lakh people are diagnosed with leprosy worldwide, and more than half of them are from India. For many, the disease may be gone, but discrimination and social rejection remain.
Sasakawa-India Leprosy Foundation (S-ILF) works to ensure that no one is left behind because of a disease they once had. From 7 regions and 21 states, S-ILF is helping individuals and families from leprosy colonies move from dependency to dignity — through education, livelihood support, Humanitarian Aid, Children Development and awareness.
Today – Over 3,200 families now run their own small businesses, 1,600 youth have pursued higher studies and skills training, 1,700 children learn and grow in after-school centres, thousands received humanitarian aid support – all while awareness campaigns continue to replace stigma with understanding
