Six US Air Force F-15 strike eagles flying in support of Operation Epic Fury went down over Kuwait due to an apparent friendly fire incident. The fighter jets were mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defences during active combat that included attacks from Iranian aircraft, ballistic missiles and drones. All six aircrews ejected safely, have been recovered and are in stable condition. Kuwait has acknowledged the incident and the cause is under investigation. The F-15s were reportedly downed by Kuwait’s Patriot missile defence system, an American system. The incident raises questions about how the Patriot system failed to recognise multiple American F-15 fighter jets. Both Kuwait and the United States have confirmed the friendly fire incident.
