TVK has accused the Tamil Nadu Police of not deploying sufficient personnel for actor-politician Vijay’s campaign rally, alleging that an unsafe environment was deliberately created. The party claims that despite obtaining formal permission for the campaigning, there was a complete absence of police protection and traffic regulation, making it impossible for the TVK chief’s campaign vehicle to move from one place to another. TVK has urged the Election Commission to immediately intervene in what it describes as one-sided action by the Chennai City Police and issue instructions to ensure proper traffic regulation. The allegations suggest that because the DMK government controls the state police, adequate precautions were not taken for the TVK rally. Reports from the ground indicate that while permission was granted for approximately 300 people at the Perambur rally, the actual turnout exceeded 500 to 700 attendees. Vijay’s journey from Perambur to Kolathur, normally a 20-minute drive, reportedly took over two hours due to massive crowds.
