The Centre has alerted all states and union territories to monitor Iran-related protests following the US-Israeli attack and the assassination of Iran’s president. The Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed states to keep watch on any protests to prevent law and order issues. Police have been asked to preempt inflammatory sermons in religious gatherings. Security agencies are maintaining close watch on Israeli and Iranian embassies in Delhi to ensure Indian soil is not used as a battleground by protesters. Extra vigilance has been directed around embassies and consulates of Iran, the US and Israel. Instructions have been issued to identify radical preachers and monitor social media activities of pro-Iran extremist organisations and global terrorist groups. Potential targets identified include Israeli missions, Jewish institutions, places with foreign tourists and Iranian cultural centres. Protests have already been reported in Jammu and Kashmir where tear gas was used.
