The Central Bureau of Investigation has issued fresh summons to TVK chief Vijay and Karur MLA Senthil Balaji in connection with the Karur stampede case in which 41 people died. Vijay has been asked to appear at the CBI headquarters in Delhi on March 15, while Senthil Balaji has been called on March 17. Vijay had requested a 15-day exemption and wanted to appear before the CBI office in Chennai, but the agency granted only a five-day exemption. The CBI maintains that the investigation is being carried out in Delhi. Vijay has been questioned twice earlier and has maintained his innocence, stating that no TVK person is responsible for the incident. However, the CBI claims to have eyewitnesses and documentary evidence, including video footage showing Vijay on top of a vehicle giving a speech while people in the crowd were fainting. The agency is in the process of filing a charge sheet in the case.
