Two Indian LPG carriers, Jagvasanth and Pine Gas, carrying a total of 92,612.59 metric tons of LPG, have transited through the Strait of Hormuz with 33 and 27 Indian seafarers on board respectively, according to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. The vessels are expected to reach Indian ports between 26th and 28th March 2025. These are the fourth and fifth merchant vessels being escorted by the Indian Navy, following three vessels that arrived last week. The Indian Navy’s warships are accompanying the LPG tankers as they transit towards Indian ports through the Northern Arabian Sea. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is monitoring the operation and has been in conversations with Iranian leaders to ensure safe passage for Indian merchant vessels. Half a dozen LPG tankers remain stuck west of the Strait of Hormuz. The government is making alternate arrangements to source energy from other countries to manage supply chain disruptions caused by the conflict-hit region.
