Speaking to reporters at the White House on November 6, 2025, after announcing measures to lower weight-loss drug prices, Trump revealed that trade talks with India are "going good" and that PM Modi has personally invited him. "He is a friend of mine, and we speak… He wants me to go there. We will figure that out, I will go," Trump said, adding, "Prime Minister Modi is a great man and I will be going." When directly asked about traveling to India next year, he replied, "It could be, yes."
This comes amid intense bilateral trade negotiations aimed at resolving imbalances, with five rounds of talks completed since March 2025. Trump highlighted India’s significant reduction in Russian oil imports, claiming New Delhi has "largely stopped buying from Russia" in alignment with US pressures and tariffs imposed earlier this year. He credited tariffs for broader global impacts, including past India-Pakistan de-escalations, while reaffirming a strong personal rapport with Modi.
