BREAKING LIVE: Explosion Reported At Valero Refinery In Port Arthur, Fire & Smoke Seen
A loud explosion has been reported at a Valero Energy refinery in Port Arthur, Texas, prompting officials to issue a shelter‑in‑place order for nearby residents. Thick black plumes of smoke rose into the air, and online videos captured the sound of a powerful blast moments after the incident, which occurred on March 23 at around 7:22 p.m.
Eyewitnesses said the blast was strong enough to shake homes in the area, followed by visible flames and dense smoke coming from the refinery site. Local fire officials confirmed an active incident and stated that emergency units, including fire crews and hazmat teams, were en route, though the exact nature of the event remains unclear.
So far, no injuries have been reported, and authorities have indicated that evacuations are not currently required. Air quality monitoring is underway to check for any release of hazardous substances, and the shelter‑in‑place directive will stay in place until officials confirm it is safe for residents to return to normal activities.
To support emergency operations and ensure safety, the Texas Department of Transportation has advised drivers to avoid State Highways 87 and 82 near the refinery, according to local reports.
