Iraq’s air defense systems intercepted Iranian missiles targeting the US Embassy in Baghdad, thwarting the projectiles just 600 meters from the embassy compound. The interception resulted in debris falling on a prominent hotel in Baghdad’s Green Zone, which caught fire. The attack is being described as one of the heaviest drone attacks targeting the US Embassy in Baghdad. Between March 13 and March 16, Iran continued launching drones, missiles, rockets and other weapon platforms across West Asia, targeting energy infrastructure, airports, military bases and embassies. No group has claimed responsibility for these attacks. However, Iran-backed groups including Kataib Hezbollah and the Popular Mobilisation Force have previously targeted US establishments in Iraq. The report also mentions that four French soldiers and four US soldiers died in separate incidents in Iraq, though US Central Command clarified the US deaths were not the result of enemy or friendly fire.
