Esmail Qaani, the Commander of Iran’s Quds Force, has issued a stern warning of ‘severe and regret-inducing punishment’ against those responsible for the recent strikes in Lebanon. Accusing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of escalating regional violence, Qaani alleged that the operations targeted civilians, including women and children, reflecting what he termed as extreme brutality and crimes against humanity. Speaking on the situation, India Today’s Bureau Chief for J&K, Ashraf Wani, who recently reported from Lebanon, described the strikes as some of the most intense witnessed, with over 100 aerial attacks occurring in a 10-minute span. Wani reported that the strikes resulted in over 250 deaths, mostly civilians rather than Hezbollah fighters as claimed by Israel. The report highlights that Hezbollah remains a powerful proxy for Iran, and the escalating conflict on Israel’s northern border threatens to drag Iran and potentially the United States into a broader regional war.
