The Indian government has issued an order mandating that households switch from LPG cylinder supply to Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections in areas where such connectivity is already available. Under the new directive aimed at accelerating gas network expansion and reducing reliance on a single fuel source, cooking gas LPG supply to households will be discontinued if consumers fail to make the transition to PNG. The government views this as an attempt to ensure diversity in cooking gas supply and reduce the burden on the LPG supply chain while providing uninterrupted supply to homes. The petroleum ministry had earlier announced incentives and discounts for consumers opting for new PNG connections. Officials emphasise that this is the opportune time for residents in regions with existing PNG infrastructure to make the switch, warning that those who remain dependent on LPG despite having access to PNG connectivity risk having their supply cut off entirely.
