Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a big tax relief for the middle class as she proposed no income tax for individuals who earn up to Rs 12 lakh. The changes have been proposed under the new tax regime. The finance minister also proposed new income tax bill, which she said will be tabled in Parliament next week.
New tax bill will be simple to understand for taxpayers, the FM said. She also proposed to make 36 life-saving drugs cheaper, including cancer medicines. FM Sitharaman began presenting Budget 2025-06 amid ruckus by Opposition in Parliament.

The Finance Minister announced the setting up of a Makhana Board in Bihar, calling it a big opportunity for the people of the state. This board will help improve the production, processing, and marketing of Makhana, adding more value to this traditional crop and giving a strong boost to Bihar’s farming economy.

The Finance Minister said that Kisan Credit Cards (KCC) will keep helping 7.7 crore farmers, fishermen, and dairy farmers with short-term loans. She also announced that the loan limit will go up from ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 under the updated scheme, giving more financial support for farming and related work.
