Counting is underway for 37 Rajya Sabha seats across 10 states, with 11 seats witnessing actual contests while 26 candidates are already assured of victory. The focus is on Bihar, Haryana, and Odisha. In Bihar, the NDA is poised to win all five seats after three Congress MLAs and one RJD MLA abstained from voting for their candidate Amrindar Dhari Singh. The absentee MLAs were reportedly untraceable for days before the polls. Despite AIMIM’s five MLAs voting for the Mahagathbandhan candidate, the abstentions dealt a significant blow to the opposition alliance. Nitish Kumar is expected to win and subsequently quit as Bihar Chief Minister to move to Rajya Sabha. In Haryana, Congress appears confident of retaining its contested seat despite technical objections raised by the BJP regarding two MLAs. The BJP has also raised concerns about secrecy breaches, while Congress has filed a complaint against senior BJP leader Anil Vij.
