Bondi Beach Shooting: Brave Man Pins Down Shooter at Sydney Beach
A mass shooting at Bondi Beach, Sydney, during a Hanukkah celebration left 12 people dead and over a dozen injured. Police have identified one of the gunmen as a 24-year-old man named Naveed Akram.
One of the gunmen who opened fire in Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Sunday has been identified as a 24-year-old man named Naveed Akram. Twelve people, including one of the suspected shooters, were killed in the incident that unfolded at around 6:30 pm (local time) during the celebration ofthe Jewish festival Hanukkah. 26 people, including two policemen, were injured in the attack.
As per reports, Naveed Akram, who was also shot during the incident, is being treated by emergency services at a hospital. According to unconfirmed reports, the man is originally from Lahore, Pakistan.
The driver’s license of the suspected terrorist has also come to light. According to the license, Akram’s residence is in Bonnyrigg. Police are presently raiding Akram’s house.
Police have declared the mass shooting at the popular tourist beach a terrorist attack. NSW Premier Chris Minns said the attack aimed to target the Jewish population of Australia. “I can assure the community that it will be met with a massive police and public order response,” he added, saying, “Our hearts bleed for Australia’s Jewish community tonight. Australia Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called the attack a "shocking and distressing" incident.
