India is witnessing a total lunar eclipse, also known as a ‘blood moon’, the longest visible in the country this year. The celestial event occurs when the Earth aligns between the sun and the moon, casting a shadow that turns the lunar surface a red-orange colour. Coverage from the Nehru Planetarium in Delhi explains the science behind the phenomenon, attributing the reddish hue to the scattering of light through Earth’s atmosphere. From Prayagraj, reports highlight the Vedic significance, with saints chanting mantras to empower the moon god. A purohit stated, "…a friend in need is a friend indeed. This now, Lord Chandrama is in need of power and by chanting these mantras, we are giving the power to Lord Chandrama." This eclipse also coincides with the start of Pitrapaksh, a coincidence said to be happening after 122 years. The next total lunar eclipse visible from India is expected in 2026. #bloodmoon #lunareclipse #totallunareclipse #itwebvideos #chandragrahan #india #celestialevent #astronomy #nehruplanetarium #prayagraj #vedicscience #science #faith #moon #space #indiatoday
