A major political row erupted on the final day of the India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam after Indian Youth Congress workers staged a ‘shirtless’ protest. The activists, who allegedly gained entry using QR codes, removed their shirts to reveal anti-government slogans, calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi ‘compromised’ over a trade deal. BJP MP Sambit Patra condemned the act, labeling the Congress party as ‘traitors of the highest order’ and accusing them of attempting to embarrass India before global leaders. In contrast, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor struck a different note, stating, ‘What has been impressive is, first of all, the attendance,’ and noting the strong message from world leaders regarding integrated AI development. While the Congress defended the protest as a democratic right of angry youth, the BJP alleged the disruption was a planned ‘sabotage’ orchestrated at Rahul Gandhi’s residence. Delhi Police have detained several individuals and filed an FIR following the security breach at the high-profile international event.
