A major political showdown has erupted in Parliament over the memoir of former Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane. The controversy intensified after General Naravane and his publisher, Penguin Random House India, confirmed that the book has not been officially published and no authorized copies exist. The publisher clarified that any digital or print versions currently in circulation are unauthorized and illegal. The BJP launched a scathing attack on Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of parading a ‘fake copy’ of the memoir in the House and violating parliamentary traditions. BJP leaders claimed Gandhi’s narrative has been ‘debunked’ by both the author and the publisher. Conversely, Congress defended Gandhi, arguing that the former Army Chief has not denied the content of the book. They maintained that since parts of the memoir are already in the public domain, it constitutes publication in the modern sense. The opposition questioned why the government is allegedly blocking the book’s release, calling for an investigation into any leaks.
