The party has termed the move an insult to Ayyappa devotees. The BJP stated, "They repeatedly insult the Hindu sentiments…How can he be invited? And how can he accept? …He is not accepting any Hindu faith festival in Tamil Nadu." The Kerala government has noted other dignitaries are also invited.
