India Today reports that the violent clashes broke out during the final phase of campaigning for the Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) elections, with polling described as being two days away. The most prominent line in the bulletin says, ‘the final stage of the campaign has taken a violent turn with these clashes, clashes between workers of the BJP and the Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena’. The clashes are said to have occurred in the Tukaramnagar area of Dombivali. The bulletin says two BJP and two Shiv Sena office-bearers were injured, and names Omkar Nathikar (described as a BJP candidate’s husband) and Shiv Sena candidate Nitin Patil among those injured. The altercation is linked to allegations of money being distributed at night.
