BJP, National Conference Spar Over Admissions At Mata Vaishno Devi University

This bulletin covers the debate between BJP Member of the Legislative Assembly R S Pathania and National Conference Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar over the merit-based admission of 42 Muslim students to a medical college affiliated with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University. The discussion addresses the university’s funding, the rights of religious minorities in Jammu and Kashmir, and comments by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah regarding potential student radicalization. BJP MLA R S Pathania stated, ‘Our humble submission that the ethos, the integrity, the history, the culture of this shrine needs to be maintained’. The debate also touches upon the functioning of other institutions like the Islamic University of Science and Technology and Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, with both participants presenting conflicting views on whether the Mata Vaishno Devi University is funded by devotee donations or government grants.
