In a dramatic move, BJP MLA Krishna Paswan from Khaga, Fatehpur, publicly exposed alleged corruption within her own government by digging up a newly asphalted road with a shovel. The inspection revealed that the road, constructed at a cost of ₹38 lakh, was made using substandard materials, causing it to crumble immediately after being laid. Paswan alleged a deep-seated nexus between Public Works Department (PWD) officials and private contractors, stating, ‘It’s basically a steal of public money and a betrayal of people’s trust.’ She halted the ongoing surfacing work and demanded an immediate stop to all payments to the contractor. The MLA has also written to the District Magistrate seeking a technical audit and the blacklisting of the construction agency. This incident follows a similar case in the Bundelkhand region where another BJP legislator raised concerns over administrative failures, providing fresh ammunition for the opposition to target the state government over infrastructure quality and internal dissent.
