GVL Narasimha Rao, former Rajya Sabha MP and senior BJP leader, defended the government’s handling of the ongoing West Asia crisis and dismissed opposition criticism as immature. He stated, ‘Prime Minister Modi’s crisis management skills are, I think, the best in the world.’ Rao criticised the Congress party for what he called failed diplomacy during the UPA era, particularly referencing Dr Manmohan Singh’s Sharm El Sheikh statement calling Pakistan a victim of terror. He highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with US President Trump and that India is engaging with Israel, Iran and the United States to de-escalate tensions. Rao emphasised that the Prime Minister made a categorical statement in Parliament that it is not acceptable for anyone to prevent the flow of passage of ships from the Strait of Hormuz. He assured that the government is making arrangements to ensure ordinary people do not suffer, comparing the current situation to India’s successful navigation of the COVID crisis.
