The Election Commission has announced the schedule for the 243-seat Bihar assembly election. Polling will occur in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with vote counting set for November 14. The election is a direct contest between the ruling NDA, led by CM Nitish Kumar, and the opposition INDIA Alliance, which includes the RJD led by Tejashwi Yadav and the Congress. Prashant Kishore’s Jan Suraj party is a new entrant. These are the first polls since the Election Commission conducted a Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, a decision now challenged in the Supreme Court. While the dates are set, alliances have not yet finalised seat-sharing formulas.
