A political storm is brewing in the monsoon session of Parliament over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise for voter rolls in Bihar ahead of the assembly elections. Congress Lok Sabha MP Manickam Tagore has given an adjournment motion notice under rule 267 to discuss the concerns arising from this exercise. The opposition, under the India Alliance banner, is set to protest, alleging the move is a conspiracy to disenfranchise the poor. Voicing these concerns, Mr. Tagore stated, "It is very unfortunate that the Election Commission has lost credibility and it is becoming an organization which only works for the BJP’s commands." He asserted that the opposition will hold the government and the Election Commission accountable in Parliament.
