In the Bihar Special Summary Revision (SIR) matter, the Supreme Court has impleaded the 12 recognized political parties in the state. The court has directed these parties to ensure their party workers and Booth Level Agents assist people who have been deleted from the electoral rolls in filing their forms. The court noted its surprise that over one lakh Booth Level Agents had filed very few forms during the SIR exercise. One of the key observations from the court was, "it is implementing these parties to ensure that all persons are facilitated by political parties." While the court declined to extend the timeline for filing claims, it stated the Election Commission could consider an extension if it receives an overwhelming response. The court also clarified that an Aadhaar card or any of the 11 specified documents could be used for applications. The next hearing is set for September 8th.
