The controversy escalated after a Congress meeting where Rahul Gandhi reportedly alleged that the BJP is targeting Dalit and minority votes and is using the poll body to remove them from the list. Following this, a party leader stated, "We have to fight democratically…We will not allow the votes of the poor, the Dalits, to be taken away." In response, an opposing voice dismissed the claims, stating that such comments are made by a "hopeless" and "defeated" opposition.
