The Election Commission of India is set to announce the dates for the Bihar Assembly elections today at 4 PM, for what will be the last state election of 2025. With the announcement, the Model Code of Conduct will come into effect. The poll process is scheduled to conclude before November 22nd, when the current assembly’s tenure ends. Political parties have urged the commission to hold the election in fewer phases, possibly one or two, a reduction from previous years. This demand is based on an improved law and order situation and the end of the Naxalism problem in the state. Key electoral factors include large-scale direct benefit transfers to women and youth. As one reporter noted, "what I sense is the direct benefit transfer, which is going to be the game changer in these elections." The NDA has projected Nitish Kumar as its chief ministerial candidate, while the Mahagatbandhan has yet to announce its face for the top post.
