Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will chair an all-party meeting on the West Asia crisis scheduled for 5 PM today. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and Union Ministers JP Nadda and Kiren Rijiju will also attend. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and the Petroleum Secretary will brief representatives of all parties present. The meeting follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statements in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha emphasising the importance of taking parliamentary democracy into confidence. In recent days, various ministries have held meetings on the evolving situation in West Asia. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan held a top-level meeting with officials, and yesterday a Group of Ministers meeting included Amit Shah, JP Nadda, and Jaishankar. The government aims to brief political parties on steps being taken to ensure no shortage of essential energy resources and mitigate effects of the conflict on India’s energy sources. Leaders from Congress and other political parties are expected to participate.
