India is set to receive its first cargo of Iranian crude oil in seven years, according to ship tracking data from LSEG and Kpler. This development follows the temporary removal of certain US sanctions on Iranian oil and refined products, aimed at easing global supply shortages. The report indicates that the shipment is expected to arrive this week, marking a significant shift in energy procurement amid ongoing Middle East conflicts that have disrupted supplies through the Strait of Hormuz. India’s Oil Ministry noted that refiners have purchased the oil as part of a broader 10-point plan. Additionally, the move comes as diplomatic efforts involving Iran, the US, and Israel suggest a potential easing of global tensions and a possible two-week ceasefire. Experts suggest that the arrival of this cargo, along with potential LPG shipments, will be a positive addition for India’s energy security in light of current crude and LPG shortages.
